How to Join
How do I join?
If you are a wind or mallet musician, there is no audition for membership! You must simply fill out the interest form located here to join! There is, however, auditions held at band camp for individual parts on specific instruments. If you are interested in the drumline, color guard, or majorettes, you must complete an audition to be considered for membership.
When are auditions for drumline, color guard, and majorettes?
Drumline: An audition will take place in the July prior to the start of the band season. This audition is predated by 2 "mini-camps" in May and June that will give you experience playing with the other members of the drumline. The camps will also allow you to receive constructive criticism from the instructors and section leaders so you are ready for the audition in July. Section leaders will be in touch with you when those dates are finalized and set.
Color guard: An audition will take place every year for all members, returning or new. This audition will take place at the end of April most years. Depending on individual circumstances, audition dates can be held sooner or later than the set audition day. Auditions can occur either in person or over video with a list of requirements. The captains of the color guard have the right to choose whether a member is accepted into the flag line or not. Members auditioning for rifle and/or saber line will be decided upon by the captains and instructors during a second weapon line audition at the beginning of band camp. Winter/Spring rehearsals will take place usually once a week during the spring semester leading up until auditions, allowing potential members to rehearse with veterans of the group, and the veterans of the group can refresh their skills before the auditions.
Majorettes: An audition will take place in the beginning of April prior to the start of the band season. Tryouts consist of a solo, a routine that the captain(s) gives, group tricks, and the learning of one of our Pre-Game routines, Washington and Lee the day of tryouts. All information including the routine and the trick list will be sent out by the captain(s) as soon as dates are finalized.
